Theatre

These are selected projects from my past experience as a theatre maker.

We May Not Have Answers

Utilizing Augusto Boal’s primary text and elaborations by David Diamond, a group of three actors and I worked on devising a short play to present as a forum. Our topic ended up being health and healthcare, as that was something we returned to time and time again.

The production was quite successful both nights, due to the passion and knowledge base of the audience, the realistic scenes we presented, and my role as Joker. We had multiple spect-actors replace actors as the evening continued and we even had times when none of the original performers were on stage.

UArizona Classics

As part of their new Staging Ancient Drama course, the University of Arizona’s Classics Department hired me as their Instructional Specialist for both Euripides’ Trojan Women and Seneca’s Agamemnon.

In both of these projects, I served as the director-educator for the students involved, most of whom had little to no theatrical background. For Trojan Women, we produced the piece outdoors as classically expected. Agamemnon was more modern and explored the use of shadow plays and video projections.

Identity

Identity was a devised play devised by myself and Allison Knuth as part of Live Theatre Workshops’s Etcetera branch, which supplies a space for production upon selection by the director.

Our piece featured multimedia elements (such as video, dance, live music, and painting), mask work, and audience interaction via the use of glowsticks to invite them to share their experiences in life.

Barrio Stories in Barrio Anita

Barrio Stories in Barrio Anita was a site-specific multimedia project produced by Borderlands Theatre after nine months of community immersion and engagement.

I served as the production assistant through the entire process and continued as the stage manager of the entire event. I also acted as the volunteer coordinator for the MAS studies UArizona course that was involved with the project. Using a GPS triggered app, I created an audio tour that explored important figures of the barrio.
